Imelda Johnson Matthews
Imelda Johnson-Matthews has over 42 years of experience working in the federal government at the Internal Revenue Service, the U. S. Census Bureau, and the Department of Health and Human Services. She has held numerous leadership positions, which were Senior Executive Assistant, Supervisory Program and Management Analyst, Supervisory Policy Analyst, and Supervisory Survey Statistician. Imelda’s areas of expertise include workforce planning and models, data analytics, strategic planning, human resources, and survey design and implementation.
Imelda is a graduate of George Washington University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master's Certificate in Project Management. She also received a Master of Education in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Coppin State University. Imelda has a Leadership Program Certificate from the University of Maryland University College.
Since retiring, Imelda is a substitute teacher for elementary and high schools in Prince George’s and Charles County Public Schools. Imelda serves as a board member for the Success and Learning Math Center, Inc, and tutors children in grades 3 to 9. Also, she assists in securing educational grants and implementing fundraising events. Imelda is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Prince George’s Alumnae Chapter, and is an advisor for the Delta GEMS program working with girls aged 14 – 18, to prepare for college and career planning.
Imelda is an active member of the Westphalia United Methodist Church. She is the Chair of the Membership Ministry and serves on the Education, Finance, and Children’s Spiritual Corner ministries.
Imelda is married and has one daughter. She enjoys traveling with family, reading, and working on arts and crafts.
